Phalaenopsis Orchids
Of the many varieties of orchids and one of the most popular in floristry is the phalaenopsis orchid. It is sometimes referred to as "The Moth Orchid" as its petals and stigma can resemble the delicate wings of a butterfly or moth. It usually comes in shades of pink, purple or white or less frequently in yellow and greenish tones. It has large dark green coloured leaves that enhances its surroundings. As it is grown for its striking appearance and colour it usually has little or no scent. Generally, phalaenopsis orchids are purchased as houseplants and are often potted in a decorative planter or container. With just a little care and attention, they can be enjoyed by the recipient for months.
